The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005 came into effect in October 2006 and replaced over 70 pieces of fire safety law.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales, including the common parts of blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). The law applies to you if you are:

  • responsible for business premises
  • an employer or self-employed with business premises
  • responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes
  • a charity or voluntary organisation
  • a contractor with a degree of control over any premises
  • providing accommodation for paying guests

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan.

At Construction Safety Solutions Ltd (CSS) we aim to provide our clients with the full spectrum of advice, planning, training and risk assessment for compliance with the current fire safety legislative framework and health and safety in the workplace and within the common areas of multi-occupied dwellings.

For CSS to facilitate this we have as part of our team a highly trained fire safety professional Mr. Simon Morgan, LLB(Hon's), DLP, DMS, MIFireE, NEBOSH.

Simon has been assessed by the Institution of Fire Engineers under the IFE 3rd party accreditation scheme and appears on the IFE's Register of Fire Risk Assessors. The IFE scheme assesses individuals only and does not apply to Companies or Organisations. To be included on the register requires the Assessor to have submitted a portfolio of all clients, the IFE then select four unconnected clients and a minimum of four differing premises types and uses. A panel of independent members of the Institution that work within the fire engineering industry assess the reports undertaken by the applicant and only after all four panel members are satisfied with the quality, presentation, conclusions and advice will the applicant be included on the Register. There are currently only 40+ persons that have been admitted to the Register.
